About the Artist
1 Video Slideshow
Welcome to Great Artist Program! In “About the Artist,” students learn everything about the master artist, including their life, inspirations, and artwork. It’s delivered in an engaging slideshow with a voiceover, allowing students to step into the artist’s shoes.
About the Art
1 Video
The next segment of GAP’s online homeschool art class studies the art that students will recreate. This video teaches kids to SEE like the master artists that came before them. They’ll learn about art appreciation, critique, history, and vocabulary to build a foundation for their creative journey.
Let’s Draw
1 Follow-Along Video
Next, students begin their drawing. They’ll follow a step-by-step video, led by Laurie (GAP’s founder), and draw one line, shape, and detail along with her. As they draw, students will develop their artistic skills, expanding their knowledge of techniques, vocabulary, composition, and other related concepts.
Let’s Color
1 Follow-Along Video
After they’ve drawn the masterpiece, students get to color it in. This segment introduces students to diverse art materials, teaches them how to blend colors, and gives them hands-on experience in adding shadows, depth, interest, and various textures. “Let’s Color” teaches students about color theory, value, and working with multiple materials to create their own masterpiece.
Let’s Review
1 Downloadable PDF
Before they’re done, students go through a simple downloadable PDF to make in-depth connections to their art and add their own unique touch. This PDF teaches students how to analyze their art and move from “good enough” to master artists. For Package 3, the entire lesson, including the four video segments and the PDF, should take approximately one hour to complete for first graders, 1.5 hours for second– to third–grade students, and 2 hours for fourth– to sixth–grade students.
The Tools Your Student Needs to Get Started
