Inspire Older Students to Become Master Artists

Creativity for High Schoolers, Reimagined

Most high school art programs stop at the basics. They don’t push students far enough and instead leave them feeling uninspired and eager for more. The Great Artist Program (GAP) sets a higher standard for grades 9–12, pushing students to think critically, create boldly, and grow into the great artists they have the potential to become. Our online curriculum explores master artists from the U.S. and around the world, spanning centuries of art history and artistic innovation. With GAP’s high school art curriculum, older students will learn to thrive as artists and see just how much they’re capable of.

What’s Included in GAP’s High School Art Curriculum

High school students follow the same art curriculum used in our middle school programs, a structure that has proven effective for older students new to GAP. Although it’s the same material, many older students (and even adults!) have taken the curriculum and discovered just how challenging it is—with results that make the effort worth it.

Two packages are available: World Artists and American Artists. The curriculum includes:

75-page PDF Workbook accessible online with lesson materials, extra art activities, and guidance to support a full year of instruction
SCORM/LMS Delivery for student/teacher access
Complete Year of Art Education, including engaging videos, technique practice, step-by-step sketchbook guides, writing prompts, and cultural/artist connection assignments
In-Depth Study of 6 Master Artists, featuring 5-page lessons, artist fact sheets, and additional teaching resources
Art Supply List for Every Master Artist, so students have what they need to create many masterpieces
Lesson Sequence Plans covering art history, art evaluation, composition guidance, and technique demonstrations
1 Final Project in each package to showcase student progress and creativity

The GAP high school art curriculum is far more than basic drawing and painting classes—the only options many older students typically have. GAP pushes students beyond their creative limits. Our program allows high schoolers to study master artists from around the world while building lifelong skills in drawing, painting, creative thinking, and resilience.

Diverse High School Art Curriculum from the 1500s to Today

GAP’s curriculum spans centuries of art history, giving students the opportunity to study master artists from around the world as well as the U.S. High schoolers get to explore their lives, cultural contexts, and techniques, while analyzing and creating artwork inspired by each artist’s unique style. By the time they’re done, they’ll become master artists themselves.
